BA Hons Music with Arts Development

We run a series of music and arts education programmes that support around a third of the schools in our area. All levels of Arts Award involve a degree of participation, reflection and gathering evidence appropriate to the level. Evidence can be provided by children and young people in a wide range of formats including written evidence and/or illustrations; blogs; social media; audio and visual recording; as well as Makaton, signs and symbols.

Established in 2009 by John, Newave started as a small group of creative practitioners who facilitated music and arts enrichment experiences in predominantly Sandwell schools. Fast forward 10 years, the organisation now works with schools across the breadth of the Midlands to provide year-round bespoke music and creative arts delivery. The biggest thing that all drama, musical theatre, acting, dance and music students have in common is the desire to perform, rehearse and perform some more! Our students are always performing in our fully equipped theatre and at venues across Sheffield, using our TV and dance studios, recording studios and rehearsal spaces to bring their visions to life. Research projects in media and performing arts can lead to either a written thesis or one that combines critical writing with artistic, creative and/or professional practice.

In support of this, audition fee waivers are offered to applicants whom financial hardship may be a barrier to auditioning. Many courses gear students up to full-scale productions when they can perform for paying audiences and even attend graduate showcases. After your audition the panel will discuss your application and pass our decision onto the admissions team who will update UCAS. You will initially engage with the fundamentals of notation and the various elements of music to develop your musical vocabulary. Music computer software will be integrated within sessions to enable you to see and hear the musical information presented. Applications from mature students with relevant experience will also be considered.
