By the end of this lesson, our final one, you’ll have everything you need to approach your local craft supply store, art school, or continuing education department with a professional proposal for your class. Encompassing the study of visual and material artefacts, museum and gallery practices and the production and circulation of meaning around art and design. This degree provides a systematic understanding of art and design practices and theories with a strong emphasis on critical thinking. There is also the possibility to participate in overseas study tours – in recent years the department has visited Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bilbao, Milan, Paris, Florence, Venice, Berlin and New York. You will be supported to navigate the extensive range of careers in the creative and cultural sectors. You can explore your own creative potential – on screen, stage, or in interactive media – while acquiring the knowledge of leadership, marketing, finance and the law that is in high demand in creative sectors across the UK and the world. Although you’re within a business school, there’s a strong emphasis on creativity, enterprise and innovation. You develop the practical skills needed by creative industries through project based-learning with active exploration of real-world cases in the creative industries. You graduate with practical knowledge, industry connections and good qualifications. The MA will provide you with the opportunity to undertake a placement or research project with an organisation from the sector, enabling students to apply their knowledge in a business setting.

Art Business Level 6

The purpose of this module is to enable you to undertake a sustained, in-depth and theoretically informed research project exploring an area that is of personal interest to you. It is important that we can support you appropriately, so you will be guided towards choosing a research topic which is relevant to your discipline and in which your lecturers have expertise. The outcome may take the form of a written dissertation or a practice-based portfolio. This course includes project work that requires you to develop and produce a portfolio or collection. You’ll be expected to provide the materials for use in your individual major projects; costs will vary depending on the materials selected.

ART & DESIGN HISTORY

The College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences is a community of scholars all of whom are engaged in exploring the world we live in and engaging with ways of changing it for the better.
